Due to a naming conflict with another program, Compactor has been renamed to Compact Pro¬. This does not reflect any change in the ownership of the software, and it is still a shareware program. Registered users of Compactor are now registered users of Compact Pro.
* Foreign Users ╤ Please Note *
Due to export regulations of the US government, it has been necessary to eliminate the encryption capabilities from versions of Compact Pro which are not registered in the US and Canada. I am very sorry for having to make this restriction, but I have not found any way to avoid doing so.
I am especially grateful to the many users outside the US who have registered. I know that the language and currency barriers make registration from overseas especially difficult. For this reason, I find this action especially regrettable. If the export laws change, I will re-enable encryption capabilities as quickly as possible.
* New Features *
Ñ Double-clicking archives in Finder with Option key extracts all contents

Ñ Segment command divides archives into fixed-size segments
Ñ BinHex4 encoding/decoding
Ñ Report command generates text file summary of archive contents
Ñ Maximum number of items in a folder increased to 1500
Ñ Maximum length of passwords increased to 99 characters
Ñ Self-extracting archives prompt for destination folder when extracted
Ñ Option to automatically validate after saving
Ñ Reduced system requirements ╤ requires System 4.2 and Mac 512KE (with 1 MByte memory) or higher
* Incompatibilities With Earlier Releases *
Two of the new features of Compact Pro may cause compatibility problems with older versions of Compactor.
Ñ If you create an archive which has a folder with more than 300 items, older versions of Compactor will not be able to open the archive.
Ñ Older versions of Compactor will not be able to decrypt any files which are encrypted with passwords longer than 8 characters.
* AppleShare Problem *
There is a known problem using Compact Pro 1.30 with some versions of AppleShare file servers. Under some circumstances, adding files from an AppleShare file server will only insert blank filenames in the archive. This does not result in any corruption of either the AppleShare files or the Compact Pro archive, but the desired files will not be stored in the archive (an error will be reported when the archive is saved).
